Important notes when importing the converted data into Garmin Connect.

  • Set the import settings to the values listed below. (Due to the difficulty of knowing everyone's local units we standardized on just one. After importing, everything will be in your local units.) This only applies to the activity files, not the TCX files.
  • MAKE SURE that you don't open the .CSV files in any program like Excel. Once you do, it changes the format of the files and makes them invalid. If you want to look at the data, it has to be with a text editor such as Notepad, etc that won't change the data.
  • MAKE SURE you extract the files from the zip file before importing to Garmin. You can't drag and drop from the zip file to the import page, that will not work (Note: the way to see is that on the webpage it says "0 bytes" for the file to import).
  • You should be able to import all of your TCX files in one shot, if it errors out, just try 500-1000 at a time. FIXED: Only try importing about 5 files at a time as Garmin doesn't seem to like a lot of files.
  • If you get the error "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." (see info here), there shouldn't be an issue with any data format in the files as this has been tested extensively. There are bugs in the Garmin import where you need to just try importing the failing files over and over until they finally succeed. (This is a bug reported to Garmin and they are actively working on it).
  • FiXED: Garmin Bug!: There is currently a bug in Garmin Connect where it shows an error uploading TCX files. The TCX files still upload despite the errors (you can find them in the Garmin activities list). Garmin is currently working the issue. If you'd like to contact them on it as well, that will probably help fixing it sooner: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?productID=73207&tab=topics.
